With the heat unbearable these days and little shade in sight, I thought I would share some of my favorite things to do to get through the Dog Days of Summer!
For as long as I can remember summer heat in Texas meant grabbing a good book and escaping in my mind to exotic locales. I'm sure my mother enjoyed the silence as I would read for hours. In a small town in West Texas there isn't much to do let alone when its 105 or worse out. The public library was a weekly trip we would take to stock up on books.

Other favorites here in Big D to escape the heat.
* North Park Center. Movies, art, shopping, food and tons of air conditioning!
* The Dallas World Aquarium. Very well done and educational. A true Gem hidden in downtown. Free roaming monkeys, exotic birds flying around, an enormous waterfall too. It feels like you're in the Jungle (without the heat and mosquitoes!) Don't miss the crocodiles, penguins and sharks! My favorite exhibit that I always head for first is the Sea Dragons. Beautiful sea horses that look like sea weed. Amazing! Great place to take the whole family.

* And some cool pool time! Check out the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Very eclectic crowd, nice refreshing water (they have a chiller for the pool!! Very important so it doesn't feel like bathwater!) and cheap food and drinks. Check it out on Yelp here with reviews and photos.
